BOOK REVIEW: Under the Dome

Under the Dome (Steven King)

Just finished King’s Under The Dome. Most of my exposure to the author is his Dark Tower series (which still blows me away,) but I’ve picked up a few titles in the last few years to see what his other stuff is like.

Steven King has made a career of surprising us. Considered “creepy” and the premiere voice of horror in America for years, he regularly veers from the path. (Think “The Green Mile” or “Shawshank Redemption.”) He’s done so again with this new work – striving for character depth and a healthy storyline.

I thought the premise of the book was excellent – and skillfully painted. In the end, the book was a bit disappointing. The book built to a resolution…I just didn’t like that resolution!

If you tend to stay away from King’s stuff because it’s too dark, Under the Dome might surprise you. However, it’s a huge book and still pricey (due to its youth.) If you’re interested, wait and check it out from the library or something. Good book…but not worth your hard-earned dollars.
