ON WATCHING PRO MUSICIANS

Here are some things I intentionally saved this past week. Because they were cool.

John Mayer – Live @ Pinkpop 2014
Love John Mayer and try to watch any concert footage I can find, simply because his musicians work so hard on groove when they’re playing. I get especially excited when I find footage of Mayer toward the end of a tour because he and the band are at their most in sync. I also like that the band sounds this good off what sounds like mostly a board mix.

My favorite Mayer live stuff is the Austin City Limits from years and years ago. Not only was the band so tight, but John’s vocals were in top-notch form. Not a bum note in the whole show.

While watching these videos, found this Mayer quote: “You learn very little from each song that you write – that you can bring into the next song.”

He’s right.
